One of my infrequent walks around The Lodge today coincided with a day of hot sunshine. Green Tiger Beetles were everywhere, flying in their typically heavy fashion from the path as I walked along. With the conifer plantations now cleared, the heathland is in the early stages of restoration. Although heather and other heathland plants are appearing, it will take many years of careful management before it can be claimed that heathland has fully returned. However, a singing Woodlark was a sign that it is heading in the right direction.
